Mentors play an important role in our Academies as small group facilitators who guide the growth and learning of a group of 15 -20 diverse high school students. During a time when students are feeling more uncertain and isolated, Brave New Academy mentors empower them to connect with the world, lead with empathy and prepare for their future.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Each of the 10 academy sessions ends with a 40-minute small mentor group called a “BNA Squad” where students break into small groups to discuss and engage with topics from that day's session. After observing the full session, including inspiring guest speaker interviews, mentors facilitate and guide the BNA Squad break out discussions and activities for the students. Mentors will engage with the same BNA Squad throughout the entire Academy and get to know the students and watch them grow over the 10 sessions.

My favorite parts of being a mentor were working with my co-mentor, meeting the phenomenal students, improving my own facilitation experience, getting to meet more of the GG team and see their magic up close.

I think my favorite part is when I can see the students understanding a topic and sharing excited ideas of things that they can develop in their own communities. In the end that is what we are looking for, that they can change this world.

Not to be cheesy but my favorite part was honestly the whole experience. I have always loved working with Global Glimpse on different projects because of the mission and amount of love from each person. Being able to be on the behind the scenes side for once was such a fun experience.

My mentors did a great job of making us reflect on what we were learning and thinking of ways we can apply that to our own lives.
